Fashion is an integral part of our lives. The fashion industry is fiercely competitive as customers are always looking for clothes that are unique, comfortable, complement their personality and are suitable for different occasions.

An eye for fashion, customisation and the ability to put in the hours are what entrepreneur Manohar Rajwani  cites as the factors key to the success of his enterprise. Stitches (Clothing and Accessories) was the brainchild of Manohar’s wife and was started in 2017 in Ahmedabad after much market research. Focusing on women’s fashion and accessories, providing the option of tailoring to suit and develop a person’s individual style, Manohar has hit upon a winning formula for success. With a big business dream of becoming a nationwide brand, Manohar’s present emphasis is on steady growth, and building customer loyalty.

In conversation with GlobalLinker (GL) Manohar Rajwani (MR) shares the journey of the company.

GL: Tell us about your business.

MR: Stitches is engaged in the business of making high quality clothes for all seasons. Our products are aligned with current fashion trends and we also provide accessories and stitching services. The enterprise was the brainchild of my wife. She is gifted with a keen sense of fashion and her guidance helps create for a client a personalised experience from selection of material to the final finished product. We opened our retail outlet in a posh area of Ahmedabad in April 2017. We provide a one window solution for fashion wear by selling quality dress material and customised stitching/tailoring services as per customer requirements. We also deal in ready-to-wear ladies’ garments such as pants, palazzos, leggings, salwar and dupattas etc. We also retail accessories for women like buttons, bunches, tassels, hangings, lace and other artifices.

GL: What are the challenges you have faced in establishing your business?

MR: The clothing industry is fiercely competitive, and we required extensive market research to determine what type of business to start. It was also imperative to come up with a business plan before taking the plunge. A background in retailing is also immensely important but we didn’t have that knowledge and experience. For us, it was exciting when we decided to open a retail outlet. However, we found that since we had an eye for fashion and can devote 10-12 hours each a day on work, it was a good way to break into entrepreneurship. By introducing a novel approach for the raw into ready model, we slowly achieved good results and have garnered customer loyalty with our quality and highly reasonable market prices.

GL: What role do you feel GlobalLinker plays in connecting & assisting businesses?

MR: Being associated with ICICI Bank as an individual account holder we opened our company’s account in ICICI Bank and started to receive promo emails from where we came to know about GlobalLinker. It’s assistance in our growth is inevitable with the potential to grow our network in India and even globally.

GL: What is your big business dream?

MR: Our ultimate business dream is to grow our business into a nationwide brand and receive clothing and stitching orders in bulk from around the country as well as from abroad.

GL: What is your message to aspiring entrepreneurs?

MR:  Some entrepreneurs are interested in building a business from the ground up, maintaining control and determining the direction of the business. Other entrepreneurs prefer to perfect what’s already built, streamlining processes and refining operations. As upcoming entrepreneurs, we are learning from our customers and the market. The best business model for individual entrepreneurs is the one that specifically works for them, and their self-motivation, eagerness and real love for their enterprise offers them the opportunity to perfect themselves.
