It is said that ‘well begun is half done’ and indeed your morning routine sets the tone for the rest of the day that follows.

 

Waking up in the morning and commencing your day with a positive, productive start is very important. Some of the most successful people across various industries have established very disciplined morning routines, which helps them maximise their energy and productivity level throughout the day.

1. Wake up earlier

It sounds easy, but you must wake up early in the morning if you want to pack in more in your day. If you can win the morning, no one can stop you from winning in life. If you can beat the morning laziness and rise up early, you can create a positive rhythm for the day.

 

Surender Gounder, founder of Tango Eye— a software company that uses the advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate actionable insights from surveillance videos, shares his success mantra, “I wake up at 6:00 AM every morning religiously and start my day with some exercise.”

2. Read the news

Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, reads at least three newspapers every morning from cover to cover. Reading news helps you determine, validate, or alter priorities based on a strong perspective that stays current. Being an entrepreneur, it is essential to know whats happening globally and stay updated with current trends. 

 

Vijay Amritraj, CEO of Voila F9 Gourmet which is India’s largest commercial kitchen, believes in keeping abreast with current affairs. He shares, “I start my day by checking the latest news on Twitter.”

3. Meditate

Did you know that 75-90% of doctor visits are due to stress-related problems. An entrepreneurs life is not easy, and the constant pressure and decision making can be very demanding. Many entrepreneurs use meditation to relax and reduce stress. Chant a prayer, focus on your breath, allow your mind to be still and calm. 

 

John Saripally, Managing Director of Comsat Systems Pvt Ltd, which has earned the title of  ‘antenna company of India’ says that he wake up at 5:00 AM every morning and starts his day by spending some time chanting prayers to start the day positively.

4. Exercise

It is a well-established fact that exercise is vital for one’s physical and mental wellbeing. Exercise provides cognitive benefits too. Studies have shown that regular exercise increases energy levels and improves and strengthens your memory and thinking abilities. It helps you focus, clears your mind of the negative thoughts and reduces stress. Your exercise regimen can involve yoga, walk, jog, or a workout.

 

Nikita Basak, Director at Svanks Projects an interiors and construction services organisation, advises new entrepreneurs to be disciplined and patient. She opines, “I firmly believe that starting my day with a workout routine or yoga for 30 minutes keeps me more focused throughout the day.”

5. Pick the most important task first

Prioritising is very important for an entrepreneur. Without setting priorities, you might end up wasting your time. Starting your day with the most important task will give you a headstart and boost confidence. During the morning, you are full of energy, which will help the difficult task at hand become a tick on your to-do list. Of course, it is essential to list down your tasks for the day.

 

Sandeep Pandit founder of experiential marketing firm ‘KraftJar’, shares that he starts his day by planning for the day. He further elaborates, “Listing down the tasks and setting up for that day is the first thing I do every morning; it helps me analyse the important tasks and plan my day effectively.”

Most successful people have one thing in common—they all follow a positive morning routine. If you want to succeed at the highest level, you must follow all the practices for 21 to 90 days.
