I am delighted to introduce this first edition of the SSESPL newsletter. We intend to make it a regular publication and to use it to keep you in touch with news and developments which relate to the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission and its implementation primarily in the state of MP. In this and future editions, we shall be analyzing decisions and discussions which take place at the State level of GoMP and the Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam(MPUVN) - the main committee which deals with the day to day policies which relate to implementation of JNNSM in the state of MP. The launch of the net-metering policy in January 2017 was a major step for the state government - some said it was as important as the 2012 solar policy! Looking back, I am impressed by the progress made in the last few years. Renewable energy service providers (RESCO) are now much more confident of the technical basis for their services and they, as well as we at SSESPL, have learned a great deal about some of the limitations in current renewable energy service sector. Improvements have been made to national realizations of the policy and new understandings and knowledge have emerged - especially from Key Comparisons of international markets. The benefits from the solar net-metering policies across the world have been felt by the larger and older RESCOs just as much as the newer and smaller ones! Net metering policy essentially makes a solar installation free of a battery storage system and with it goes the constant charging/discharging charade of a chemically excited storage device. Of course your system life increases (as high as 25 years) but also the real purpose of an alternate energy source is solved. Clean energy. Albeit, there is some "gray energy" associated with the solar panel manufacturing though negligible in comparison to the 1.8 tonnes of carbon emission per year by an average Indian. It is time we select grid tied solar systems. It is economical, technically feasible, has a maintenance free service and long system life. Also, it apprises your property value.
